The History of Lee Women's Rugby
The Lee Women’s Rugby Football Club began in the spring of 2006, but after the first semester it died out due to lack of interest. In 2007, a group of students were able to successfully form a new rugby team with the help of members from the men’s team and the 2006 women's team.
After facing the challenges that come with the launching of a new club on a college campus, the Lee Women's Rugby team was officially established in the spring of 2007. Once the team secured environmental science professor Michael Freake as the head coach, they began looking to face opposition on the field.
In spring of 2009, Lee Women’s RFC entered their first Matrix season, or conference season. After a grueling season against teams such as the University of Tennessee, Middle Tennessee State University and Western Kentucky University, the team finished third in the South Central district.
